Job Description:

The Billing Specialist position plays a primary role in the facility’s day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring compliance with current accounting and cost reimbursement principles. These principles relate to medication, medical equipment, healthcare services, and home healthcare operations, as directed by the Manager or Controller.

Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Obtaining referrals and pre-authorizations for billing procedures.
  • Analyzing and becoming familiar with standard medical billing codes.
  • Verifying patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Reviewing patient bills for accuracy and completeness, obtaining any missing information.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and submitting claims using the billing system.
  • Following up on claims within the standard billing cycle time frame, including contacting insurance companies to address pending discrepancies.
  • Identifying various insurance companies and ensuring payment accuracy.
  • Researching and appealing denied claims.
  • Reviewing patient accounts for insurance-related follow-up.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Degree in accounting.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize projects efficiently.
  • Proficiency in working independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional conduct and ability to maintain patient information confidentiality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting, communicating with, welcoming, and directing guests.
  • Answering incoming calls and accurately redirecting them when necessary.
  • Addressing common customer inquiries and resolving or reporting complaints.
  • Assisting patients in applying for Managed Long Term Care and contacting them as needed.
  • Conducting extensive daily phone and email communication.
  • Verifying eligibility and benefits for various insurances and issuing referrals for processing.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with community partners.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese (Spanish proficiency is a plus).

  • Detail-oriented and familiar with Medicaid and MLTC eligibility processes.
  • Knowledge of HHAexchange software system is a plus.
  • Proficient in using office machines (printer, scanner, fax, etc.).
  • Computer and internet savvy, skilled with MS Office Suite (especially Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Skilled in Adobe PDF editing.
  • Responsible and quick to respond.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with good time-management skills.

  • Team player with at least 1 year of experience as an Intake Coordinator or in a similar role.
